The Pointe Coupee Office of Tourism is a legislatively created political subdivision of the state of Louisiana, whose main charge is to develop and promote tourism within Pointe Coupee Parish.
Commission Purpose
Positioning Pointe Coupee Parish as a leading tourism destination in the state, region and south is the main objective of the Pointe Coupee Tourist Commission. By working with local accommodations, attractions, specialty shops, artists and restaurants, we continuously market and promote our unique heritage and culture, making tourism a leading industry in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Facts About The Commission
The Pointe Coupee Parish Tourist Commission was chartered in ____. The Commission is primarily funded by a 3% Parish Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax.
The financial support allows the Pointe Coupee Tourist Commission to market Pointe Coupee Parish and its attractions through sales efforts, advertising, and public relations. This financial support also pays for the day to day operating expenses of the Pointe Coupee Parish Tourism Office, located at 500 W. Main Street, Suite 104, New Roads, LA 70760.
The seven-member Commission, appointed by the governing authority of the parish, meets on a bi-monthly basis to review overall policy, budget, finances, marketing plans, and programs. This meeting is held on the second Friday of every month at the Pointe Coupee Tourism Office and is open to the public.
Commission Nominations
According to La. statue RS 33:4574 (44)(F)(b)(i), which covers "Tourist commissions; creation; purpose; directors; powers," commission appointments "shall be made from a list of nominees submitted to the governing authority or authorities by private, nonprofit groups that have an interest in one or more aspects of the tourism industry."
